Title: AmeriCorps Signed Language Teacher
Employment Information:
Full-time, 10 – 12 month position

Qualifications:
- Successfully completed a minimum of 45 credit hours post-secondary course work
- Experience and/or knowledge relative to child development and family dynamics
- Bilingual ASL/English skills and direct experience with Deaf Culture
- Experience or demonstrated interest in teaching signed language
- Ability to recognize and respect the cultures and choices of others
- Ability to adapt to new environments and embrace new experiences
- Proven self-starter and has ability to work in a rural setting
- Ability to achieve and maintain positive relationships with staff members, students, parents and community members
- Ability to travel frequently within New Mexico
- Ability to learn the diverse cultures and socio-economic factors in New Mexico
- Current Driver’s License and insured personal vehicle
Primary Duties:
The Signed Language Teacher will work with the Program Manager and other NMSD staff to provide high levels of service in rural locations statewide. Duties and responsibilities include: high-standard service delivery; maintenance of his/her own caseload and timely paperwork; public relations with families, the community and educational programs; collaboration with a variety of stakeholders and supervisor regarding program planning and development.
Although the above are typical of the duties and responsibilities normally performed, additional duties and responsibilities requiring the same or lesser skills, knowledge and flexibility may be required.
