Title: Educational Consultant to Public Schools

Reports to: Director of Outreach

Salary: Based on education and experience

Deadline: Open until filled (Interviews to qualified applicants will begin immediately)

Starting: Negotiable

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s Degree preferred) in Deaf Education or related field. Minimum of three (3) years experience teaching or related experience with deaf and/or hard of hearing students. NM Teacher licensure or ability to attain. Demonstrated skills in making formal presentations and working within the scope of multi-cultural and family systems. Experience interacting with Public Schools and Special Education Regulations as applied to children who are deaf and hard of hearing. Fluent ASL and English skills (additional Spanish or Navajo skills are desirable). Demonstrate a professional demeanor. Ability and commitment to represent the vision, mission, and beliefs of NMSD as both a school and an outreach agency. Additional experience or training in early childhood education desired.

Primary Duties:

Partner with school districts statewide to support D/HH students attending school in their home districts. Provide student-specific and program-specific technical assistance for assigned Local Education Agencies (LEAs). Conduct classroom observations, providing feedback and reports to the educational team. Share information about professional development, training events and on-site workshops offered by NMSD. Provide assistance to IEP teams with quality programming though the development of the Communication Considerations Addendum, and attend IEP meetings. Coordinate student evaluation services at NMSD, as appropriate. Provide support to students transitioning to NMSD or returning to their home district. Work with families to support appropriate educational services to deaf and hard of hearing children.
This position requires frequent travel.

Although the above are typical of the duties and responsibilities normally performed, additional duties and responsibilities requiring the same or lesser skills, knowledge and dexterity may be required.
