Title: Classroom Teacher - Preschool through High School Reports to: Principal Employment Information: This is a full-time, 10-month position Salary Range: Depending on qualifications and experience Deadline: Open until filled (Interviews to begin March, 2012) Qualifications: Possession of Bachelor’s and/or Master’s Degree in Deaf Education, Special Education or related areas. For secondary teaching, preparation of single subject matter preferred (e.g. English/literature, mathematics, science, social studies, physical education). For elementary teaching, multiple subject preparation preferred. Possession of or eligibility of New Mexico teacher licensure. Training in early childhood education preferred for Early Childhood Education teachers; Keen knowledge of Developmentally Appropriate Practices for early childhood instruction. Familiarity with Reggio Emilia practices or willingness to learn. Proficiency in expressive and receptive American Sign Language and written English. Eligible for Highly Qualified status or willing to become Highly Qualified in specific instructional content area being taught. Primary Duties: The Classroom teacher is responsible for instruction in one or more subject areas. Plans learning experiences that motivate students and meet their individual needs. Prepares and utilizes instructional materials that support overall curricular goals. Integrates critical thinking skills and literacy into lesson plans.Supports NMSD’s progressive vision and mission. Prepares records and reports on students’ progress required. Serves on faculty and staff committees as assigned and participates in in-service activities provided by the school and in self-selected professional growth activities. Works productively with colleagues, parents, and community members. Maintains state and Board requirements for licensure. Although the above are typical of the duties and responsibilities normally performed, additional duties and responsibilities requiring the same or lesser skills, knowledge and dexterity may be required.
