Student Body Government
NMSD's Student Body Government (SBG), revitalized in 2001, works to promote a better environment to fulfill student needs. SBG members have addressed issues such as the campus dress codes and public displays of affection, as well as assisting with creating student friendly menus with the supervisor of NMSD's dining hall. Students also attend leadership retreats. |
Academic Bowl
Gallaudet University's annual Academic Bowl competition provides students with the opportunity to showcase their academic knowledge and skills, while competing against students from other schools for the Deaf. NMSD students meet frequently to practice with staff and review information for regional academic bowl competitions. |

Drama Club
NMSD's Drama Club offers students of all ages hands-on opportunities to develop acting, stage design, lighting, costume making and makeup skills while learning from Deaf and hearing theater professionals. Students are also able to participate in the bi-annual ArtSign Festival and the annual Middle/High School spring play production. |
Hispanic Club
NMSD's Hispanic Club was established in 2001 to help students preserve their cultural identities and family heritage. Membership is also open to non-Hispanic students with an active interest in the Hispanic world. The club meets twice a month, participates in Cinco de Mayo celebrations, and visits the National Hispanic Cultural Center. It also hosts events that provide Hispanic cultural exposure to the community such as Fiesta Day and Hispanic Heritage Month. |

International Studies
International Studies is an academic club designed to provide students with a better understanding of world history, cultures and global issues. Students participate in various academic and fundraising activities throughout the year which results in a trip of a lifetime, allowing them to experience what they have been studying.

Jr. National Association for the Deaf
Jr. NAD provides lessons in scholarship, citizenship, leadership and fun. Students have the opportunity to attend conferences where they interact with other Deaf students from around the country as they develop critical life-skills. Students also attend the NAD's Youth Leadership Camp or the National Leadership and Literacy Camp during the summer. This past year, two students attended the Jr. NAD's national conference in AZ. |

Ski/Snowboarding Club
NMSD's Ski/Snowboard Club provides fun weekends for interested students who have the opportunity to develop better skiing and snowboarding skills. The club participates in local ski trips and participates in the Aspen Ski Camp in Colorado. |
Strong Silent Council
NMSD's Strong Silent Council (SSC) gives American Indian students the opportunity to learn and take pride in their native cultures. In the past, SSC has sponsored the school's POW WOW and Feast Day celebrations and participated in the Circle of Harmony Conference to raise awareness of HIV/AIDS in Native Indian communities. Students also attended Jemez Pueblo's Feast Day and our state capital to show support for legislation pertaining to Native Americans in New Mexico. The SSC is currently working on proposing a bill related to Deaf American Indian recognition. |
