James A. Little TheaterThank you for your interest in the theater.

The James A. Little Theater is currently closed. The school is not allowing use of the theater for any purpose. 


There is no timeline for reopening the theater. 

Also, the New Mexico School for the Deaf is not currently considering rental requests for any future dates.

The James A. Little Theater, a 400 seat hall on the New Mexico School for the Deaf campus, hosts NMSD shows and is rented out for lectures and performances.

For the James A. Little Theater JAL Fees and Request Form


1. The James A. Little Theater Technical Representative must be present throughout your occupancy for a separate charge of $30 per hour. Additionally, the Technical Representative will be paid for any time required to set up for your event or to restore the space following your event.

2. You must provide the New Mexico School for the Deaf with proof of $1,000,000.00 in liability insurance covering your event in the theater.

3. The theater provides a working lighting and sound system. Current specifications are available on request.

4. Rental fees are due with a signed contract. The fee for the Technical Representative and any additional fees will be billed following the event.

SEATING CAPACITY: The fixed seating capacity of the theater is 388. Forty-four padded folding chairs can be added between the first row of fixed seats and the stage for a total seated capacity of 432. Total audience capacity of the theater including standing room and persons in wheelchairs is 450. 

The theater is equipped with a Gentner Assistive Listening System that consists of an FM transmitter and individual battery powered receivers that can be distributed on request.
