FAQs - Student Life

  1. How do I stay in contact with my child?

All cottages have videophone capability and are available for all students so they can communicate with families, friends and community. SLEs are expected to have contact with parents biweekly, more frequently if necessary/requested, via VP, emails, or texts.

  2. Am I expected to send food with my child?

No. NMSD provides 3 daily meals plus healthy snacks in the cottages. You are more than welcome to send snacks with your child.

  3. How much money will my child need?

Most activities are covered by the Student Life staff. For special activities, the SLEs will contact parents for additional money. Parents can send an “allowance” with their child and our staff can help manage your child’s weekly allowances that are kept in our safe.

  4. What clothes will my child need to bring to school and back home?

We have laundry machines that are available for your child. We encourage our students to do their laundry at the cottage to minimize the need to bring clothes home on weekends. We encourage the students to keep seasonal clothes in the cottage to help keep closet space roomy.

  5. Does the school provide linens for my child?
We strongly encourage the students to bring their own linens so that their bedroom will be homelike. We do have extra linens used for back up in case of emergencies.
